PodSnacks: Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS)

The title of our PodSnack for today is a mouthful, but the concept is not so complex. When the cable companies decided to use their video networks to deliver other services, they needed new technology. Specifically, they needed the protocols and equipment that would move packets back and forth across the cable network. That's what DOCSIS is all about. It defines the relationship between the cable modem and the cable modem termination system (CMTS). If you don't know what that is, I give you a bit of a backdrop in today's PodSnack.
