Follow the Data

Podcast - Author: Mark Steinberg Published: September 12, 2006
Beginning a long time ago, corporations were concerned about customers and suppliers being able to phone in with orders, questions and the ability to find out information about what might be going on in their relationship with the company they were doing business with. As we began to migrate to a digital world, more and more information was stored on computers and servers. First it was centralized in data centers, and then it began to migrate out to distributed architectures. Today, almost all organizations have data stored on various computers. At first, only internal staff required access to this information. But in today’s world, various entities need and want access to the same information.

Understanding the flow of data is critical to the build-out of networks today.  In this brief talk, Mark Steinberg, Senior Member of the Technical Staff, takes a look at the concept of “following the data” and where key elements fit together.  The interrelationship between various users is a key driver in today’s network decision-making criteria.  Additional reference is made to the C-I-A Triad podcast, which can be obtained (here).
