The Fastest ISP

On August 2nd, PC magazine published the results of a survey they conducted between May 12th and June 8th, 2006. In the study, they provided users with an application called SurfSpeed. The application simulates the activity of a browser, creating multiple connections to multiple sites and using the download speed to get an aggregate picture of the user's experience. Each time the application was run, the results were uploaded to PC Magazine where it could be correlated with other users in that zip code, state, or country. The article does not contain that many surprises: fiber is better than copper and cable services trend faster than DSL services. What might be a surprise is the average speed today's users are achieving. The article is worth a look, and can be found here.
