Is Tape Still Safe Podcast

Many organizations ultimately back up their data to tape, typically in a direct attached storage environment.  However, there appears to be a lot of pressure on tape today, and it is seems fair to ask a simple question - "is tape still safe?"  Check out this podcast to uncover the key points being made around this important issue that is creating changes in the world of storage.

There is more information about the reality of moving from tape to disc at Storage magazine's June article on the topic.  Storage magazine's Alex Barrett notes that when one adds up the number of tapes that might be needed for a daily rotation scheme, tape's cost (at a per-gigabyte) advantage seems to lose some steam.  

Now storage professionals are discovering that sending backups electronically offsite is not only easier, but also more secure, more reliable and just as cost-effective as tapes.
